Gympie Courthouse will have a Domestic Violence Awareness display during Law Week 2018. The display will have a range of information available on justice services and related agency services. Public are also welcome to attend any open court sittings of both District and Magistrates Court sessions that will be held during Law Week.

Queensland Legal Walk - Toowoomba

Please join us on 15 May 2018 as legal communities across Queensland walk together to support access to justice and raise funds for LawRight and the Disbursement Fund. LawRight is a community legal centre founded by the legal profession to address gaps in the civil justice system and provide free legal help to the most vulnerable in our community. The Disbursement Fund helps clients of pro bono lawyers and community legal centres with their out-of-pocket costs associated with their legal matters. The Walk in Townsville will be led by The Honourable Justice North and His Honour Judge Coker. Walkers will meet outside the Toowoomba Magistrates Court at 159 Hume Street. Breakfast will be provided after the walk. Coffee will also be available for purchase, please note only cash will be accepted. The Walk commences simultaneously at 7.00am in locations across the State as part of Law Week. All levels of the legal profession from judges to law students, have supported this event since 2008.

Queensland Legal Walk - Gold Coast

Please join us on 15 May 2018 as legal communities across Queensland walk together to support access to justice and raise funds for LawRight. LawRight is a community legal centre founded by the legal profession to address gaps in the civil justice system and provide free legal help to the most vulnerable in our community. The Disbursement Fund helps clients of pro bono lawyers and community legal centres to cover out-of-pocket costs associated with their legal matter. On the Gold Coast, walkers will meet outside the Southport Courthouse and walk out to and along the Broadwater and back to the Courthouse. The Walk commences simultaneously at 7.00am in locations across the State as part of National Law Week. All levels of the legal profession from judges to law students, have supported this event since 2008.

The Disbursement Fund helps vulnerable clients of pro bono lawyers and community legal centres with out-of-pocket costs relating to their legal matter. The Walk commences simultaneously at 7.00am in locations across the State as part of National Law Week. All levels of the legal profession from judges to law students, have supported this event since 2008. In Cairns, walkers will meet at 7am at the Fun Ship playground, north end of Esplanade, for a walk led by Judge Henry of the Supreme Court, returning to the same place for coffee and light breakfast.

The Walk commences simultaneously at 7.00am in locations across the State as part of Law Week. All levels of the legal profession from judges to law students, have supported this event since 2008. In Brisbane, over 600 supporters will walk 5km from the Queen Elizabeth II Court Complex through the city and alongside the River, finishing with breakfast and Walk Awards back at the Courts.

Design for Justice

Design and law do not typically meet, but we think they are perfect for each other. For the past several years Portable have been working on projects across the justice system, driven by a desire to make it more accessible, equitable and efficient for all users. While working within the sector and following extensive research, Portable are launching a report that explores pitfalls of the justice system, and areas they see could be redesigned, including a series of recommendations for how they think the system can be improved. Hackcess to Justice is the closing event of Law Week, a hackathon where talented tertiary students and early career legal professionals passionate about law and technology will design and ultimately pitch an innovative solution to neighbourhood disputes before a panel of esteemed judges.The aim of Hackcess to Justice is to bring fresh, innovative minds together to formulate ways in which neighbourhood disputes can be prevented and resolved at an early stage.
