Justices of the Peace (JPs) are highly-respected members of the community who play an important role in our society.

They are volunteer workers in Queensland’s legal system and perform a wide range of services, from witnessing the signing of documents to hearing certain matters in court.

By dealing with routine matters, JPs free lawyers and the courts to concentrate on cases that require professional legal training.

There are three levels which each provide specialised services to the legal system and the public:
